It's funny... I don't really look all that pregnant from the front (I mean, I do... but not AS pregnant as I do from the SIDE). We took these today while testing lighting at a senior session... so I thought I'd post them here for my little timeline of growth. :D

I'm Feeling: busy
jeney [userpic]

A friend of mine just bought a big ‘ol fancy laptop. It’s huge and almost too pretty to use. It’s a Toshiba, if that matters.

It came with Windows 7 and ie8 already installed. She called me over because she didn’t know how to open her browser (hand to God) and she wanted me to put an icon on her desktop to give her access to her email. Oh, and since she’s blind as a bat, she asked me to make her text larger.

The only other things I did: Install her copy of Office 2003 which is compatible with Windows 7 (or so Google told me), and hook up her printer.

So having said all that, the problem: When I opened ie, the page takes a little longer than I think it should to open. First, it comes up reduced size and when I enlarge it, it takes a bit for the contents of the window to expand. But then, it just WON’T close. I click the X. I wait. It is unrelenting in its openness. Eventually, I have to shut it down in Task Manager.

Have I broken her computer with my “help”, or is this a known problem? When I get back over to her house, I’m going to try running ie with no add-ons. I don’t even know if she has any to disable, but I’ll see.

Do you have any suggestions for me? I’m not tech savvy. I’m only slightly more savvy than she is.

Oh, and it did seem that at first - when I showed her that she could just click on the e to open her browser - that the page was loading just fine, then. But now – not so much.

Help?

***

She just called and said it's all fine. Except for the fact that her emails have all disappeared and there are no photos on her computer and her hand hurts, but that's not anything I can help with.

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer
contractor of his plans to leave the house building business and live a
more leisurely life with his wife enjoying his extended family. He would
miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by. The
contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could
build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes,
but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He
resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an
unfortunate way to end his career. When the carpenter finished his work
and the builder came to inspect the house, the contractor handed the
frontier key to the carpenter. "This is your house," he said, "my gift
to you." What a shock! What a shame! If he had only known he was
building his own house, he would have done it all so differently. Now he
had to live in the home he had built none too well. So it is with us. We
build our lives in a distracted way, reacting rather than acting,
willing to put up less than the best. At important points we do not give
the job our best effort. Then with a shock we look at the situation we
have created and find that we are now living in the house we have built.
If we had realized that we would have done it differently. Think of
yourself as the carpenter. Think about your house. Each day you hammer a
nail, place a board, or erect a wall. Build wisely.

love songs to myself. [userpic]

a delicious mocha at breakfast, a less delicious coffeecake.  It is not included in the deliciousness count.

A slice of very thin veggie pizza with kalamata olives and feta for lunch.

Leftover garlic and pepper broccoli chicken for dinner, and the most flavorful pear for dessert.  Ppl say they eat fruit as dessert, but I didn't really believe it was possible until I ate this pear.  It's from my CSA box and I thought it would never get soft--but it was soft, just not mushy and mealy like supermarket pears.

And now I have a cup of rice milk hot cocoa to watch a movie.  *happy sigh*
